One of the hardest things for me to write...
Yes I am a writer. Every writer has their strong and weak points. One of mine is a bio, profile or about me section. One reason I created the "personal" blog on this website. I describe myself through the updates and posts. Hopefully, this does not sound too boring or like a personals ad. I will start with the basics.
Where I live: Allentown, Pa.
What I do: Independent Author / Journalist.
Physical description: see photos, taken 01/13.
Hobbies / Interests: Writing, photography, computers, a few video games, graphics design, art, music, taking walks, live bands, nightlife, reading (when I have time). TV shows: great background noise.
School: High school graduate. One semester of college.
Area I grew up: Lehigh Valley, Pa.
Places I have lived: Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Place I have visited: Traveled from Massachusetts to Florida.
Where I want to live: Two places. 1) The beach 2) Any major city. I love both equally.
Favorites list: Places: Gulf coast, Florida so far. Pretty much any city. Music genre / artists: Rock / too many to list. Movies: Too many to list. Art: whatever catches my attention. Video games: do not really have one. Authors: Again, too many too list. Books / Genres: Sci-Fi / Fantasy. Hangout: Any club / bar that has live music. Any diner, preferably a "mom and pop" one.
Easy part done. Time for some details.
Writing: I started writing in grade school. As a teenager, it became an outlet for me. A way to express what I was feeling or going through. Until last year, writing was an on and off again thing for me. I would have ideas, hit writer's block and stop. At points this would last for years. The original reason why "A Dream in the Night" took so long to publish. In 2012, after getting laid off, I decided to start doing reviews of books and local music. I remembered one comment a professor made on a game journal I did. He suggested I do an internship at a video game magazine. Last year, I thought: I go out anyway, why not try. At first, I stared doing reviews for fun. It evolved to the point where I started taking it seriously. Reviews are not the only category I do on the journalist side. At times, I also write human interest articles. On rare occasions, I throw in something off the wall but logical. I always try to expand and evolve my style and categories. Projects for 2013 include: at least 2 novels, expanding beyond the Lehigh Valley, Pa area, writing for publications in addition to the website and blog.
Music: I have always loved music. The first song I remember is "Afternoon Delight" / Starland Vocal Band. Yes, I still love that song. My first 45 was "Lonesome Loser" / Little River Band. Genres I do listen to: rock, ballads / slow songs, some rap, country and instrumental / new age. When I go out: live music. DJ's are not bad. I zone out too easily when listening to them. Listening to music has the emotional effect on me. It brings back memories, gets the adrenalin going or helps me escape life. I have never been in a band or learned an instrument. Electric guitar and keyboard are two I would love to play. Lyrics, I have written. Some poems in A Dream in the Night are actually songs. Getting on a stage, one time, is still a dream for me. Hopefully, 2013, the dream will be real.
Books: Reading, like music, was once a great escape for me. One I am getting back into. When I read a book, the world faded from sight. Some of my favorite authors include: Asimov, Bradbury and Anne McCaffery. Doing book reviews, some of the indies / self-published authors are making their way onto that list: Ella Medler being the first. Books are still one of the two best ways for me to escape life and reality.
The rest of it: Video games are a great way to relieve stress for me. Nightlife / live music / bars / clubs? A way to recharge the batteries and get re-focused. With the review / article mindset, I am finding harder to get lost in the music. Movies are a distraction and background noise. Some I do really get into watching. Art: local artists are my favorite. I can only draw 2d, abstract at best. Like music, art is something I never had a natural ability for. If you want to know anything else, just ask. Reading my blogs and writing will help.
In case you are wondering: Single, No kids, Engaged one time, Married one time, Never divorced, Not separated. Could not resist this part.
